“In March 1975, I photographed Bill Graham’s S.N.A.C.K. Benefit Concert, which was held to save extracurricular programs in San Francisco schools after severe budget cuts during the 1974–75 recession. S.N.A.C.K. stood for “Students Need Athletics, Culture, and Kicks.” Determined to use rock ’n’ roll to help the community, Bill gathered together an all-star lineup at Kezar Stadium that included Bob Dylan, members of The Band, Grateful Dead, Santana, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Graham Central Station, Doobie Brothers, Tower of Power, and Jefferson Starship. Bill’s friends Francis Ford Coppola and Marlon Brando were also on hand."
